"ACUITY"

CTB/McGraw-Hill's highly acclaimed reading comprehension assessment program for students in grades 3 - 8.  Acuity is the most comprehensive, flexible, relevant, and accurate reading comprehension assessment that we have seen in the past five years. It is completely correlated to California Standards and Benchmarks, the basis for instruction and evaluation (i.e. grades) in California.   This is significant because Acuity identifies specific, relevant reading comprehension skill gaps that will impair your child's long-term success in school if they're ignored.   Moreover,  our Strategic Reading program (see below) focuses on your child's skill gaps - you will see a real difference in school!  Click on "Acuity Assessment" and you can submit a request in less than two minutes.

STRATEGIC READING

"Strategic Reading & Writing" ("SR") is a powerful, personalized reading comprehension & writing program.
  • SR begins with "Acuity" and one of our learning style assessments.
  • After the assessments, we meet with you to discuss the results and compare them to your child's report card. If we think your child needs extra help, we will recommend a game plan at this meeting.
  • Our lesson plans focus on your child's skill gaps, the exact same skills that are measured in school and on STAR tests. We're also cognizant of your child's learning style to ensure that we employ the most effective teaching techniques for YOUR child.
  • Using Acuity, we continually assess your child to ensure that he or she is making steady progress.
  • SR integrates local textbooks and literature so we can teach your child how to apply SR strategies to his or her schoolwork. We don't expect our students to figure this out on their own.
  • SR also includes writing so your child will learn how to apply his or her comprehension and critical thinking skills to writing assignments.
  • SR students finish homework more quickly, experience less academic stress, earn higher grades, and increase their academic self-esteem.
